Luxury Jewellery Trends to Watch Out for in 2022

During the pandemic, we might not have been able to splash our money on fancy holidays or fine dining. Instead, many have turned to luxury jewellery as an element of certainty in these uncertain times. People are wanting to spoil themselves, and why not, we’ve all had a rough couple of years.

Looking to buy your next luxury jewellery item and don’t know where to purchase it? You can always think about buying a piece of jewellery that is on-trend right now but will still be on-trend in five years’ time. The beauty about buying a luxury item of jewellery is that they stay much less affected by the trend cycle than other pieces of jewellery. So, what if we told you that you can get the best of both worlds? A luxury piece of jewellery that is on-trend right now, and also a piece that remains pretty timeless.

The trend cycle

We’ve just mentioned the phrase ‘trend cycle’ and you might be thinking ‘what on earth is that?’ A trend cycle is basically the process of a trend being introduced to consumers, this trend then rises to mainstream popularity and then it declines and is not worn for a couple of years until the trend comes back around.

Trends are coming and going at a rapid pace nowadays this cycle is only getting faster and faster. As we said earlier, it is possible to purchase items that are outside of the trend cycle. A benefit to this is that when it comes to reselling, your item will retain its value, or it might even make you more money.

The trends that should be on your radar

So, at this point, you might be wondering what the jewellery trends of 2022 are? Well, you’re going to want to pay attention to the next section of this article. We’ve done handbag trends that should be on your radar this year, so it’s only fair we give jewellery the same attention.

Forget 2021, we’ll be diving into all the trends we expect to see this year. So get ahead of everyone and become an on-trend fashionista by reading on.

Bold colours

Bright and bold colours will continue to be on-trend this year as green, pink and purple dominate the runways at London fashion week. The spring and summer months naturally lend themselves to these brighter colours, as we come out of the dark winter and into the lighter spring months. Luxury jewellery pieces like Van Cleef & Arpels Alhambra bracelet in Malachite, and the Rolex Submariner Hulk are two bold pieces of jewellery that are bound to be on-trend this year.

Mixing metals

Many people are either team gold or team silver, but why be either when you can actually be both? Gone are the days when mixing metals was a bad idea, in fact, mixing metals is now on-trend. The rules have gone out the window when it comes to mixing metals. Wear whatever you like, if you want to wear all gold jewellery, then do so! If you prefer an all-silver approach, then wear whichever you prefer. Make a statement by wearing both. Swiss watch designer Rolex demonstrates this with their Oyster and Jubilee bracelets which can have both metals – steel and yellow gold. If it’s good enough for Rolex, it’s good enough for us.

Y2K and ‘fun’ jewellery

Last year we saw vintage and fun jewellery take centre stage, and this trend doesn’t seem to be going away anytime soon. Jewellery doesn’t always have to look the same or be in the same traditional style. Use this year to experiment with your usual look and invest in some playful jewellery to mix up your current wardrobe. You never know, this could become your signature look. For example, buying you and your partner a matching Cartier Love ring could be a different way of showing your appreciation for one another. After all, flowers are so last year!

Gold silver rings

Personalisation

Personalised pieces of jewellery are likely to be huge this year, whether they be marked with your initials, entire name or something like your zodiac sign. Not only is jewellery an extremely elegant way to wear something that is sentimental to you or your family, but it is also a conversation starter. Towards the end of last year, Meghan Markle was spotted wearing a constellation necklace for her two children, Archie and Lilibet. Meghan is showing here how easy it is to get a piece of jewellery that looks great but also has meaning too. You could even say that Meghan started this 2022 jewellery trend!

Sustainable jewellery

Sustainability is a huge trend right now because consumers want to see how their jewellery is made, rather than just the jewellery itself. People are becoming more and more influenced by sustainability, which is why this isn’t a 2022 ‘trend’ as such. Instead, this is a trend we’re likely to see continue much further than this year.

Unusual case shape on luxury watches

Speaking specifically about watches here, it is looking like unusually shaped watch cases are going to be a big trend this year. 2022 is all about watches that stand out and are a real show stopper. There are already many watches on the market that have an unusual case shape, take Audemars Piguet’s Royal Oak timepiece as an example. The Royal Oak is famous for its octagonal bezel and the eight visible hexagonal screws which secure it in place. This is just one example of many, but now might be a great time to have a look at the timepiece options that offer an unusual case shape.

Keep your eyes peeled

Trends change extremely quickly, however it is likely that the trends we’ve spoken about here will continue long into 2023. For example, sustainability is not just a trend, it is a movement and people will be demanding sustainability in their purchases for a long while yet.

However, if you do see a trend you’d like to buy into, then go for it! The luxury of buying a designer piece of jewellery is that most pieces are timeless and will be on-trend for a while yet. After all, it’s important to treat yourself every now and then.
